BTAC is excited that you will become a volunteer and contribute your skills and expertise towards the black trans equality cause. Our Steering Committee Volunteer Open Enrollment is to invite support of the BTAC 2017-2018 Program Year.  Your help is needed to make the Black Trans Advocacy Conference National & Regional Conference possible and a true success!


BTAC offers a myriad of volunteer opportunities ranging from high participation levels (Chair/CoChair) to projects that allow you to engage throughout the year as your schedule permits.  BTAC LOGO 2018

Program Goals/Objectives:

  • 300 BTAC 2018 Conference Attendees
  • 30 BTAC 2018 Attendee Scholarships
  • 30 Committee Members Lead BTAC2018
  • 3,000 BTAC Volunteer Service Hours
  • $30,000 Fundraised for BTAC Conference Programs

Volunteer Opportunities

Committee Chair

  • Responsible for organizing meetings & delegating tasks for the committee to ensure overall milestones are met.
  • 40hrs Per Month or 480 Total Hours Management & Administrative Duties
  • Duration: 12-Month Program
  • VACANCY: Education & Empowerment, Hospitality & Guest Services, Communications & Marketing. 1Max Each.


Committee Co-Chair

  • Responsible for keeping up current status of tasks and overall milestones, and assisting lead. Act as a backup to chair
  • 20hrs Per Month or 240 Hours Total Co-Management & Administrative Duties
  • Duration: 12-Month Program
  • VACANCY: Attendee Fundraiser, Corporate Sponsorship, Education, Black Trans Empowerment, Ally Empowerment, TransManifest Live! Black Trans Awards Gala, Black Trans Family Reunion Day and Vendor Connection. 2Max Each.


Committee Member

  • Responsible for assistance in completing tasks as needed.
  • 5-10hrs Per program, project or event assignment
  • Duration: Per Assignment
  • VACANCY: All Committees. 3-7Max Each.  

Volunteer Committees

Education & Empowerment

  • Education and Advocacy: Health & Wellness, Faith & Social Justice, Anti-Violence, HIV/AIDS, Employment, Housing, Human Services. 
  • Black Trans Empowerment: Trans/GNC, Transmen, Transwomen, Aging Adults 50+, Youth. 
  • Ally Empowerment: Latino Trans, Cisgender Women, Cisgender Men, Stud/Masculine of Center, Parents and Kids.


Events & Logistics

  • Events: TransManifest Live!, Black Trans Pageants, Black Trans Advocacy Awards Gala, Black Trans Family Reunion Day, Black Diamond Ball.
  • Vendor Connection


Hospitality & Guest Services

  • Conference Registration, Customer Service and Hospitality Suite.


Communications & Marketing

  • Social Media, Web Design & Management, Graphic Design, Public Relations, Photography and Vidography.


Fundraising & Scholarship

  • General Donations, Membership, Attendee Fundraiser, Corporate Sponsorship, Grant Writing,
  • Sales: Souvenir Journal Ads, Website Ads, Memorabilia.


BTAC Regional Conference

  • Education, Black Trans Empowerment, Ally Empowerment, Events & Logistics, Hospitality & Guest Service, Communications & Marketing, Fundraisng & Scholarship. 


  • Must apply, interview, and be selected
  • Must complete volunteer contract upon selection (as necessary)
  • Must be able to commit to volunteer hours per assignment

Additional General Eligibility Chair/Co Chair

  • Previously Attended BTAC
  • Current Paid BTA Membership
  • Served greater than 1year as a BTA Volunteer

Volunteer Acknowledgements

  • Black Trans Leadership is acknowledged each year at the Annual National Black Trans Advocacy Awards
  • Featured award categories include: Rising Star, Trailblazer, Pillar, Foundation Awards and the Black Transmen Inc Man Of The Year & Black Transwomen Inc Woman Of The Year.
  • New BTAC Committee Award Categories will also be awarded!
  • Next years awards gala is scheduled Friday April 28, 2018!

Volunteer Notification

  • Eligible applications will be evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis June 30-July 10.

  • Eligible applicants will be notified via email if your application has been accepted, and interviews will be scheduled mid July.
