I am a white trans woman who works for a tech company in the Boston area. Since the murder of George Floyd, my partner and I have been looking for ways to make a difference in the Black Community. We are both very aware of our white privilege. We also wanted to make a difference to the transgender community since that is a big part of my own identity. The two of us make pottery semi-professionally as a side gig and so we decided to do a fundraiser at my job selling pieces with 100% of the money being donated to BTAC. This donation is the money that was given directly to me. Between this, my own private donation prior to the fundraiser, and several individuals who sent their money directly to you, We were able to raise a little over $1000 dollars.

I’m donating for a few different reasons: as part of the fundraiser Team StarKid (the theater group) has set up and to do my part as a fan of theirs. I’m also donating because as a Harry Potter fan, I feel this is a right way to show support towards the trans community after such hurtful statements made by J.K. Rowling. As a white cis male living in Europe, it’s difficult to accurately and completely assess what the difficulties for black trans people in the States are, but I am aware of the work that has to be done both in the USA and closer to home. Thank you for the hard work you do to bring a more equal world closer.

As an ally to the LGBTQ community, I work to fight for their rights. I am so disheartened with the wall that we crash into when those same rights are not afforded to people of color. I am especially touched by the peril of trans people of color, and pledge to work more for this population in the future.

  306. Susan Currie

Trans right is something I’m very passionate about. I became friends with a wonderful woman through an online game back in 2008. After 2 years or being friends and getting to know eachother she told me she was trans. Back at that time I never heard that word. She was amazing and let me ask ignorant questions as I tried to understand and figure out what being trans really meant. I remember her telling me how horrible it was to be locked in a body that wasnt yours how her family threw her out, how she struggled. This beautiful kind woman. I dont want anyone to have to go through that. I’ve supporting organizations that support and fight for trans rights and trans life!

2020 has educated me on my privilege, everything that is happening everywhere, and has been happening, I had only been recently informed of. And that is so ridiculous how we aren’t taught about the world’s injustice going on in school or any of that.
There isn’t much I can contribute, but I will give it my all for this important cause. Stay strong and keep fighting for what is right.

  320. Molly Soos

as a member of the LGBT community, i think it’s incredibly important to support our trans brothers and sisters, and particularly with the tragedies that have been happening around this country for so long, it is even more important to support our black trans siblings, since they are so frequently targeted.

  390. Eli Luna

Hello,My name is Eli Luna and I am the co-founder of the Dallas VHS Swap. We are a local Dallas group that is made up of VHS movie collectors. It may sound weird that there is a group of collectors for VHS but what we enjoy about this hobby is the community we have created that is open and accepting of anyone. We were the outcasts growing up, called “weirdos” because we were into horror movies on VHS, and we were the introverts that preferred staying home to being in the “in-crowd.” We are people comfortable being ourselves because it makes us happy. This group was formed 2 years ago. Once a month we would gather at the Alamo Drafthouse and show up with our boxes of VHS tapes to trade, swap, or sell to each other, but what we all enjoyed was seeing each other and finding new people who felt accepted into our community. Since COVID the group has not been able to meet in person, although we still meet virtually online as best as we can. COVID has shown the importance of community. Most recently with the BLM movement, we feel that the Dallas VHS Swap community tries to model how we’d like the world to be and we fully support that Black Lives Matters. In looking for a way to do our part in trying to change the world for the better while staying safe, we did a fundraiser in which I asked for donations from our community. In return, I gave them custom masks with our community logo, stickers, buttons, and other items. In 3 days, we sold all the masks along with all the other items and we raised $600.00. I feel that the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition could use our donation as a community that is also open and accepting to wanting a better world. I am happy to make this donation of $600.00 in the name of the Dallas VHS Swap community and hope someday we can all live a world in which we can all be more kind to each other and always have an accepting community for everyone. Warmest regards,Eli Luna, Noel Gross and the entire Dallas VHS Swap CommunityCo-Founders of the Dallas VHS Swap

I want to support black trans folx as much as possible, because they are humans who deserve respect. Black trans folx undeniably give so much to this world and don’t get the credit they’re due. It’s time for that to stop, it’s time for them to be able to live long, happy, and healthy lives.

I was just talking with my younger brother about the Black Lives Matter movement. He has inspired me to donate in his name. When he said all “lives matter” and there is “only two genders, pick one” , I felt that (it hurt). I have failed to prevent these harmful views. I doubt his viewpoint will change anytime soon, no matter how much I try. So, if he refuses to feel compassion and acceptance, then i’ll do it for him. I don’t have much, but I hope this helps a little. Thank you ♥️

American Independence Day should not focus on beer and fireworks- it should focus on dismantling the systems we have that make it exponentially harder for any non-white American, especially Black Trans folks to succeed in our country. A few people at Education Northwest, a nonprofit in Portland, Oregon (the whitest city in the country), is taking a tiny step by matching my daily pre-tax wage of $180.90. I spent my paid day off educating myself, marching alongside fellow Portlanders, and reflecting on how systems put in place by out-of-touch people need to be abolished.

  564. Eli Luna

    Hello,
My name is Eli Luna and I am the co-founder of the Dallas VHS Swap. We are a local Dallas group that is made up of VHS movie collectors. It may sound weird that there is a group of collectors for VHS but what we enjoy about this hobby is the community we created of an open and accepting community to anyone who was maybe an outcast growing up or called a “weirdo” because we were into horror movies on VHS, and we are introverts staying home instead of being in the “in crowd” growing up and have grown up to be good adults. We are people comfortable in bring ourselves because it makes us happy. This group was formed 2 years ago and once a month we would gather at the Alamo Drafthouse and show up with our boxes of VHS tapes and trade, swap or sell to each other but what we all enjoyed is seeing each other and finding new people who felt accepted in our community.

Since COVID the group has not been able to meet in person however we still meet virtually online as best as we can. COVID has shown the importance of community and more recently with the BLM movement we feel that the Dallas VHS Swap community tries to model how we’d like the world to be and we fully support that Black Lives Matters. In looking for a way to do our part in trying to change the world while staying safe we did a fundraiser in which I asked for donations from our community and in return I gave them some custom masks with our community logo, some stickers, buttons and other things. In 3 days, we moved all the masks I had made along with all the other items I gave away for donation and we raised $600.00.

    Warmest regards,
Eli Luna, Noel Gross and the entire Dallas VHS Swap Community
Co-Founders of the Dallas VHS Swap

This donation is made on behalf of Misfit Coffee Company working out of Minneapolis, MN. A barista put together a fundraising effort in honor of Marsha P. Johnson. This donation is the result of an art fundraiser that sold prints to raise money for BTAC in light of the ongoing movement for racial justice and to value Black lives. Additionally, this donation is intended to honor the 51st anniversary of the Stonewall Riots lead by Trans POC activists Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. During this auspicious and revolutionary time it is paramount that we advocate for the most vulnerable among us and stand with our BIPOC and LBGTQIA+ brothers and sisters. If you are interested, I would love to mail one of the remaining prints signed by the artist that was sold as part of the fundraiser to your headquarters.
