Gender Specific Peer Mentors Needed for Part-Time, Remote Work Job Opportunity

 

Organization Overview
Established in 2011, (BTAC) Black Trans Advocacy Coalition is the only national organization led by black trans people to collectively address the inequities faced in the black transgender human experience.

BTAC, through our national advocacy center and affiliate state chapters work daily to end discrimination and inequities faced in health, employment, housing and education to improve the lived experience of transgender people. BTAC’s work is based in peace building, community education, public policy initiatives, empowerment programs and direct services.  Our mission is to help improve the black trans human experience by overcoming violence and injustice in the world through the power, value and love of all people.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition provides positive and affirming support to enrich the lives of black trans women, men and non-binary people through the Black Trans Empowerment Mentoring Program.

The Empowerment Peer Mentor is in the community we serve and works to facilitate, a structured comprehensive program focused on healing, holistic wellness mentoring and leadership development relationships within the United States..

The Empowerment Peer Mentor will use both personal lived and learned experiences as a black trans person to nurture, develop and facilitate activities both administratively and programmatically to meet organizational goals. They will perform a wide range of tasks focused to identify and support achieving client goals and objectives.

3 Positions Available to provide gender specific mentoring services.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Peer Mentor will be responsible for providing essential support to trans and non-binary individuals participating in our peer mentoring program. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Goal Setting and Achievement: Assist program enrollees in setting and achieving their personal and professional goals by providing guidance, encouragement, and support.
  2. Empowering Financial Education: Empower program participants with financial education through a structured and guided mentoring program. This may include budgeting, financial planning, and resource management.
  3. Mentoring: Build meaningful, supportive relationships with enrollees, offering a safe space for open dialogue, advice, and sharing experiences.
  4. Advocacy: Act as an advocate for program participants, helping them navigate systems, access resources, and address any challenges they may encounter.
  5. Monitoring Progress: Regularly assess and document the progress of each enrollee, adjusting mentoring strategies as needed to ensure their success.
  6. Data Reporting: Maintain accurate records and submit regular reports on the progress and achievements of program participants.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Strong commitment to supporting trans and non-binary individuals.
  • Empathetic, patient, and active listening skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A solid understanding of financial education or a willingness to learn.
  • Previous mentoring or counseling experience is a plus.
  • Sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by trans and non-binary individuals.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Computer proficiency in: Microsoft or Google Office programs (Word & Excel)
  • Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience helping poverty-specific population overcome barriers to service(preferred)

 

SCHEDULE

  • This is a short term, hourly paid, contract assignment averaging between 10-15 hours a week or 60 hours per month working remotely
  • Must have dedicated time available to work collaboratively with project teams on business days Tuesday – Thursday including monthly staff and bi-weekly team meetings.
  • Commitment to a 1-year Term

 

REMOTE WORK REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a quiet and private work station
  • Must have desktop/lap top/or tablet
  • Must have reliable high speed internet connection
  • Additional equipment: (headphones preferred)
